Go big or go home. Who doesn’t admire wallpaper that makes a statement? We sat down for a few minutes with interior designer Shannon Tootle of Tootle Designs to learn more about current wallpaper trends and hear her advice for homeowners.

Q: Wallpaper seems to be back with a vengeance. What do you contribute to its resurgence in popularity?

Tootle: With years of neutral walls, homeowners are gravitating toward bright, bold wallpapers to liven up their spaces. You are only limited by your imagination with the thousands of designs and themes available today. Homeowners aren’t afraid to explore more creative decorating choices, and the variety of modern geometric designs, as well as natural fabrics and murals, are meeting their creative needs.

Q: What wallpaper designs & patterns are on-trend for 2022?

Tootle: Bold and large-scale floral designs are bigger than ever for 2022. Also, metallic effect design, which looks very fashionable and elegant in any interior. Murals are also making a surge in popularity. Especially on accent walls in a dining room or a bed wall.

Q: Do you have a favorite wallpaper brand?

Tootle: My favorite wallpaper brand is Phillip Jeffries. Their handcrafted artisan designs cater to every style while offering unique details you won’t find anywhere else.

Q: What common mistakes do you see homeowners make/attempt to make when selecting wallpaper? What advice would you offer?

Tootle: A common mistake is picking a print that is too loud in comparison to the rest of the house. An overwhelming paper makes the connecting rooms feel very underwhelming. Also, there is a difference between tonal and being boring or “blah”. The trick is incorporating layers, texture, and variation to create visual interest.
